When will my copy of The Economist arrive?

Individual Subscriptions:
Please allow 2 weeks from receipt of order for delivery of first issue.

Our aim is for subscribers to receive their copies by Saturday. If delivery of your weekly issue(s) is inconsistent, please email us at customerhelp@economist.com with the following specific details:

  • Full name and address as it appears on your mailing label
  • Your customer reference number that appears on the top line of your mailing label
  • The day of the week you received your last four issues

Group Subscriptions:
Orders placed by Monday at 5:00 PM EST will receive the next available issue dated Saturday of the same week. Copies are shipped via UPS on Friday mornings for Monday morning delivery. Orders placed by this deadline should allow one week for delivery of first issue.

Orders placed after the Monday 5:00 PM EST deadline should allow two weeks for delivery of the first issue. Copies will ship on the following Friday via UPS for Monday morning delivery.

For all questions regarding delivery of your Group Subscription, please email us at academic@economist.com with the following information:

  • Full name and address used when order was placed
  • Number of copies ordered (per week and total copies)
  • Date ordered

Orders not delivered can be tracked and reshipped if lost by UPS.

Will I have access to premium content at The Economist online if I subscribe to the magazine?

The Economist online is available free to everyone. But as a paid subscriber to the print edition of The Economist, you're also entitled to unlimited access to The Economist online including unrestricted access to news, analysis, rankings, blogs, multimedia, online debates and a fully searchable archive dating back to 1997. To activate temporary access to our premium online content including complimentary access to the online article archive, please follow the instructions below based on your subscription method:

Individual Subscribers:

As a subscriber to The Economist, you are entitled to receive unrestricted access to the premium content at The Economist online

In order to gain full access, you will need to register on The Economist online and enter your customer reference number which is printed on the address label of your magazine. In the meantime, you can gain temporary access to archived articles by clicking here and following the prompts. Once you receive your first issue simply log back on to The Economist online, click on "My account" followed by "Activate premium online access to archived articles and the audio edition" and log in by entering the email address and password you signed up with for temporary access. Then follow the directions to gain full access.

Group Subscribers: All paid subscribers are entitled to unlimited access on The Economist online. Professors will receive online Authorization Codes and accompanying instructions for themselves and their students via email within 2-3 days after submitting the order.

In the meantime, subscribers can gain temporary access to archived articles by clicking here and following the prompts.

All online Authorization Codes are valid through the term of the subscription ordered.

How can I order back issues of The Economist?

Back issues are available for the following prices:

Up to 12 months old - US$8.00
Over 12 months old - US$9.50
Washington DC residents add 5.75% sales tax

Issues available from 1985 through current issue.

Back issues require prepayment in the form of a check or by credit card

Credit Cards accepted: Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover
